Research Lecture by Jelle Joustra
location: media room: 1A-01
On Thursday 26 April, the Research Lecture will be given by Jelle Joustra. The topic of his lecture will be 'Thermal optimization of competitive sailing gear'.
Summary:
Various levels in activity and changing environmental conditions affect the thermal balance of dinghy sailors. One can think of changing weather conditions and course changes affecting the apparent wind speed. Sailing gear is worn to protect the sailors from the environment, but it does not comply with the changing demand for energy dissipation. For his graduation project, Jelle is developing a thermal model of the sailor and his environment to analyze and test his design ideas.
Biography:
Jelle studies IPD and is now graduating at Magic Marine and the Innosportlab Den Haag on the development of new sailing gear for the Olympics. He is an avid sailor himself as well, particularly on the botter BU130. In 2008 he joined the Nuon Solar Team to design, build and race the Nuna5 in Australia and Japan.
