IDE Minor Sustainable Design

Starting September 1, 2008, IDE offers a Minor in Sustainable Design. This minor is accessible to students from architecture, design and engineering universities worldwide.

The minor will offer an interesting mix of theory and (a lot of) practice.

Sustainable design is a source of innovation, as more and more companies are discovering. Come and discover this exciting field with us!

DfS courses

ID 2431 Milieukunde (Dutch)
Bachelor program. The Course introduces the basics of the technological and business aspects of Ecodesign.

ID 3051 Design 5 (Dutch)
Bachelor program. Design 5 challenges teams of design students to create Sustainable Product Innovation options for real companies.

ID 4140 Internationalization
Master program. The goal of the course is to prepare the student for the international context of the industrial design practice. Attention will be paid to amongst others cultural differences in team work and design, outsourcing of production, global product strategies and the ethics of operating in an international context.

ID 4125 Life Cycle Engineering and Design
Master program. The course focusses on the design engineering of products over their complete life cycle ('from the cradle to the grave'). In addition to advanced product and production engineering approaches, life cycle costs, product longevity and reliability, products' end-of-life and other sustainability aspects, emerging new product technologies such as photo-voltaic, fuel cell and man-powered energy techniques and material innovations will also be core elements of the course.

ID 5355 Environment and Design in Business 
Elective, Master program. Handling environmental and Sustainability issues in a business environment is more than application of standard tools for ecodesign. The objective of this course is to get insight in how companies manage internal and external value chains. The focus will be on issues like supply chain management, green marketing, stakeholder perspectives and new sustainability and corporate responsability items.

ID 5561 Product Service Systems
Elective, Master program. The course is oriented at the development of new product-service systems (PSS), as a next strategy for dematerialization.

ID 5351 Applied Environmental Design
Elective, Master program. The goal of the course is to acquire skills in Environmental Design and to get insight in the environmental and business value chain.
