Biography

Carlos did his PhD and worked as a Research Associate at the Engineering Design Centre, University of Cambridge (UK) between 2000 and 2007. He has a background in Industrial Design. His research (while in the UK), investigated the development of design tools within the theme of user-centred design, with the aim of helping designers to empathise with 'non-mainstream' users in more tangible and interactive manners. During his research Carlos collaborated with other academic and industrial design partners, such as the Royal College of Art, Central Saint Martins School of Design, the Design Council, Tangerine Product Design and IDEO.

Experience

Before starting his PhD, he worked with an architecture and design consultancy in Barcelona, Spain, and also with the Portuguese industry on product development and quality control. Throughout his PhD Carlos worked as a usability consultant for several British design companies.
