Electives
For the Automotive Master specialisation a range of logical building blocks has been designed. Each automotive elective contains one or more of these building blocks. Automotive electives are also open to students not following the automotive specialisation.
ID5242 Automotive Design - 6 ECTS
Building block: Automotive design theory contains a vast range of automotive design aspects, such as the history of car development and design, automotive engineering, vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics and future cultural, social and technological developments. The objective is to become familiar with the effects that these areas have on the expression of the automotive concept and to develop the specific automotive skills, required to visualize them.
Building block: Automotive design project is the application of automotive design theory, in forming a long term vision on how the automotive product shall be experienced in the future by its user and how it fulfils its reason of existence. Cultural, social and technological developments are being translated into a desired automotive character, which will act as a guiding principle for the visual theme, new technological principles and the package. These are the starting points for exterior and interior concepts for which the history of automotive form and design, automotive technology and branding strategies provide a lexicon.

ID5247 Automotive Sketching - 3 ECTS
Building block: Automotive drawing techniques concerns automotive specific drawing and render techniques. Manual sketching and drawing are being taught as well as CAID in 2D and 3D, and the interaction between the techniques throughout the design process, including package design.
Building block: Package Design deals with automotive package design in 3D. The outcome of this process, for which a mannekin software package is available in combination with 3D, is the bases for the sketching building block.

ID5249 Strategic Automotive Design - 3 ECTS
Building block: Strategic Automotive Design concerns branding and brand portfolios in the widest possible context. Branding subjects and form analysis are linked to the three levels of the company, corporate, strategic business unit and operational, through the application of renowned business models and theories, as well as new methodologies, developed within the strategic automotive design domain.
Building block: Automotive Design Processes, deals with the management of the automotive design process, its outcome, and its position within the corporate value chain. It introduces a model in which the relationship and interaction between business strategy, product strategy and behavioural strategy are being reflected.

ID5245 Elective Automotive 3D - 3 or 6 ECTS
Building block: Automotive Form Aspects s a specialisation within Form Study and deals with the translation of automotive character into design, in a clay modelling workshop. Students gain insight into how surfaces, graphics, treatments and proportions contribute in the creation of a desired character of an automotive concept or product.
Building block: Automotive Clay Modeling allows the student to build a scale model of an automotive design. The student will become acquanted with modeling tools and techniques. Next to hand methods milling capacities are also available.
Please note that 3 ECTS of the first building block count for the minimum requirement for automotive master track. Starting is possible throughout the year; please consult Ger Bruens.
