Product Engineering
Product Engineering
Profile
The Product Engineering (PE) section focuses on the systematic analysis and synthesis/design of products, whether mass-produced or small-series, by contributing to and utilising advanced engineering theory and calculus spanning the fields of multi-physics (incl. mechanics, mechanism theory, thermodynamics, heat transfer, electronics, wireless communications, macro- and-nano-materials and production processes), optimisation and control. Within this rigorous systems approach couplings at different levels become paramount to obtaining optimised designs, and Product Engineering develops robust scalable methodologies tackling complexity and uncertainty.
To address this scope, the section actively draws its staff from a range of technical disciplines and collaborates with other specialised groups within and outside the faculty, in line with the faculty’s cross-linked multi-disciplinary paradigm.
Product Engineering comprises part of the Technology Transformation programme and contributes to the Applied Research Programme (Sports, Mobility) of the faculty. It provides the knowledge and methods for the corresponding part of the BSc curriculum in Industrial Design Engineering, the minor in Sports Innovation and the MSc curriculum in Integrated Product Design. Additionally, Product Engineering provides the coordination of the MSc in Integrated Product Design and the minor in Sports Innovation.
